The legendary Cahun family move their production facility

The legendary hatmaking family, whose head coverings have made a lasting impact on Zagreb, have moved their production facility and craft to a new location at Vlaška 59 after 70 years.

Situated in the immediate vicinity of Dolac, the small Cahun workshop, which has created hats for more than 69 years, was considered to be indispensible symbol of downtown Zagreb.

One of their first famed jobs was designing hats for the movie “Tko pjeva, zlo ne misli”. Even though the days when a hat was considered a status symbol are long gone, today the Cahun family make all kinds of head covering using various materials.

The City of Zagreb granted them the right to use their former space at Pod zidom, which is currently in the property return process so they were forced to relocate. The workshop in Vlaška 59 has been significantly altered, but has managed to shine in all its glory after the owner Jasna Cahun filled it with unique coverings.

As autumn and colder weather come ever closer, the demand increases and their product range includes a wide selection of men and women’s hats, caps, scarves and turbans made from natural materials. At their new location the Cahun family promises a new start in order to keep the family tradition alive and this tradition definitely forms an indispensible part of Zagreb’s cultural heritage.

This hatmaking family is a part of Zagreb’s recognisable charm and cannot be replaced by mass production, which is something Josipa Cahun dreads. Still, she doesn’t preclude the possibility that her daughter might follow in her footsteps.
