Atelier Marković

An atelier in the very heart of the city is not only a business but also a beautiful art space which, once you find yourself there, you will never want to leave. The atelier has been doing business at the same address since 1919. At first it specialized in crystal cutting and chandelier making, and after World War II it expanded the range of its services to include picture frame making.
About

At the age of fifteen, Mr. Damir Marković began visiting the workshop and watched his father work his magic there. This family-owned business has had loyal customers for generations. Grandchildren of people that used to be its customers still use its services. It is recognized in the city for its high quality of service, handwork, and cordiality.

In addition to framing pictures, photographs, tapestries, handicrafts, and Gobelin tapestries, it offers the services of glassmaking as well. If you want a unique glass table or a shelf, it will be made in accordance with your wishes. It boasts exquisite and unique mirrors that never fail to draw customers’ attention.

The Marković family collaborates with Ante Vrban, a well-known architect, as well as with the Government of the Republic of Croatia and a number of consulates and embassies. They have equipped more than five hundred restaurants in Zagreb, but also many hotels along the Adriatic coast, whose walls are decorated with their unique handmade works.

They attend international fairs regularly and follow the latest trends, so your choice of frame is practically endless. They work exclusively with wood. They have been framing all kinds of things: from a baby’s first shoes to signed jerseys and family portraits.

Once a woman came to the atelier to have her Gobelin tapestry framed, and, when she returned to pick it up, she didn’t believe that it was the same Gobelin that she had brought. Five days later, after they had combed the atelier for it, the woman’s husband, who had made the Gobelin, showed up and confirmed that it was the one that had been framed. He hadn’t followed the chart completely and instead of a yellow thread he had used a brown one. It was an awkward situation. At one moment they had really thought they might have misplaced the customer’s Gobelin.

Mr. Damir treats every order with utmost dedication because, he says, when they require his services, people open up their souls and show their emotions. It is a job that demands a great deal of responsibility, but it is enjoyable and creative. He grew up with the atelier and developed his skills in it. You can feel confident that when you leave your valued articles with him, they will get the attention they deserve.
