Leatherware Pokupec

Tanja Pokupec Hubak is in charge of leatherware Pokupec, a family craft. Her father Pavao Pokupec started the tradition in 1951 in Ilica 196 where the craft is located to this very day.
About

Tanja grew up surrounded by leatherware and, although at one point she developed an interest in economics, the passion for her family business was just too hard to resist. She took over the craft in 1988 with her father supporting her to his last days. She’s also received platinum awards on account of preserving and continuing the craft’s family tradition.

Production used to make the bulk of our business activities, but considering market and customer requirements, services now comprise the largest part of our business activities. Tanja does repairs, but she also makes custom-made bags, wallets, belts, cases and other leather objects. She utilises a wide range of natural materials such as pig, veal, beef and sheep skin as well as numerous synthetic materials. This energetic entrepreneur feels at ease in her creative space and points out that a balance of aesthetics, functionality and precision is the winning combination for a good product. When the customer’s demand and realisation overlap, then everybody’s happy.

“My job makes me happy and proud. You just have to love it in order to keep going. Leatherware is not that lucrative so you can’t be driven only by money, you have to love it. Working soothes me and makes me feel good because it combines precision and creativity”, Tanja explains.

Given that Tanja pulls all the strings and makes all the decision, she doesn’t have any plans for expanding her business activities. Thanks to a good relationship with customers and good work, she’s swamped with work and positive feedback
