Keepers of tradition and culture – Čehulić and Radočaj

Autor ZagrebCrafts / Tagovi

Croatian folk costumes and hand-woven items in general are a part of cultural heritage and are inseparably linked with the way of life. Moreover, they reflect social and cultural particularities of the given region and climate.

They also serve as art expression and reflect various historical influences. You could tell where someone comes from just by the clothes they wore. Clothing items and other hand-woven details served to express belonging so they form an essential part of Croatian national heritage.

Croatian folk costumes and hand-woven items in general are extremely diverse and rich. Master workshops in our city and the surrounding region are keeping them from fading into oblivion. Ethno workshop Čehulić bears the Originally Croatian certificate. It was founded with the aim of preserving the textile handicraft of Vukomeričke gorice, Turopolje, Posavina, Pokuplje as well as the Pannonian folklore region. They are primarily involved in weaving and making folk costumes using only old (more than 100 years) looms. Folk costume jewellery is another specialty of theirs. They also repair folk costumes. At Ethno workshop Čehulić you’ll be given a unique opportunity to acquire all kinds of original hand-woven men and women’s folk costumes. Their rich offer also includes original necklaces made by stringing together beads, corals, “škuda” or “talir”, the latter two being a type of old money. They are particularly skilful at making poculice, a type of traditional women’s hair covering, and peče, a head covering place on top of poculica. They use linen, silk and cotton to make double cloth which is then used to make one-of-a-kind tablecloths and pads. We recommend because they’re truly stunning. You can find out more at their official website www.etno-cehulic.hr.

Nevenka Radočaj is another keeper of tradition. She founded the Craft for hand weaving an souvenir production. She makes unique cotton and linen handicraft, as well as original preserved hand-woven items. Their products possess a special charm and their quality. Their varied product range ranges from napkins, towels and curtains to paintings, decorative bags, emblems, flags and other ingenious hand-woven souvenirs. Craft Radočaj is located at Katanci I 16, Posavski bregi. You can also get in touch with them by calling +385 98 9755 256. As we make the necessary arrangements for the upcoming holiday season and decorating our homes, we’ve been inspired by these craft to purchase several unique items, namely, woven tablecloths, pads and napkins. We trust they will fit in your home together with a decorated Christmas tree and the company of your loved ones. Coupled with a rich dining table, shiny trays, plates, glasses and candles, a unique tablecloth and napkins will make them even more elegant and homey so relishing good food and company will be more pleasant.
